Little Maximus 🧡
As a kind supporter, you helped rescue Maximus in November 2024, when he was tragically taken from his mother and held in illegal captivity. He was just two years old, and had suffered immense trauma at the hands of humans.
Thanks to your kindness, Maximus was rescued, and given a second chance. And with continued support, he can build the skills he needs to find his way back to the wild, where he belongs.
Today, I am happy to share that Maximus is absolutely thriving at our SRA rescue centre in North Sumatra! I was lucky enough to spend some time observing him at Jungle School earlier this year, and I am thrilled to see that he's progressing so well.

Maximus has recently been buddied up with Noon, who arrived at the centre earlier this year, after being rescued from the illegal pet trade in Thailand. Maximus and Noon share a night enclosure together, and they have become the best of friends!
They love to play together, often seen wrestling and messing around. For a while there, Noon was stealing Maximus’ food, but over time, Maximus has become more confident in defending his precious snacks.
But let's not forget the cutest bond of all, Maximus and Agam! These two are so sweet together, always playing, wrestling, and cuddling.

At Jungle School, Maximus is excelling, and we couldn’t be prouder. He’s very active and loves to explore. His foraging skills are blossoming, and he loves to search for natural foods like forest fruits, cambium, flowers and insects.
Lately, Maximus has improved his climbing skills, and he often spends much of his Jungle School lessons climbing and swinging confidently through the canopy.
He’s also slowly but surely becoming more independent, and is relying less and less on his pal Agam, as his confidence in the forest grows.
Maximus is growing into a strong, confident and very skilled orangutan. And it’s all thanks to you!
These are the stories I love sharing with you. Stories about young orangutans who are rescued from deeply traumatising situations, growing into brave, confident orangutans full of life and personality. Orangutans belong in the rainforest, wild and free to live as nature intended. And your support is giving orphaned orangutans the second chance at freedom they deserve.
Orangutans like young Maximus, who now has a very bright and very wild future ahead of him. All because you care!
