Sudin

Sudin and his close friend Siti continue to thrive at Jungle School.

Every day, their trainers carry them from their enclosure to the Jungle School area. The location changes often depending on the availability of forest fruits and post-release orangutans. Here, Sudin and Siti learn vital survival skills. They often do this by watching and interacting with the older post-release orangutans.

Both Sudin and Siti are showing promising survival skills for their young age. What’s even more encouraging is that they are relying less on their trainers. They are becoming more independent and want to learn from other orangutans.

Due to the non-fruiting season, forest fruits were scarce. So, Sudin and Siti had to adapt. They ate leaves, bark, stems, and flowers. This is valuable experience to help prepare them for life in the wild. They are still wary of adult males. Upon encountering one, they often climb to the ground to hide in the bushes.

Siti builds new nests to rest in during the day. Sudin is content with reusing old nests or sharing Siti's. They spend much of their time playing together or with other orangutans. They have spent time with several post-release orangutans, including Anjeli, Citrawan and her infant, Evan, Jeky Chan, Jelly Bean, Rosi, and Violet.

One heartwarming moment saw Siti attempting to gently stroke Citrawan’s infant. Sudin even joined them in the same nest, showing their growing curiosity and social nature. These interactions and experiences are essential for Siti and Sudin as they develop the skills needed for a successful return to the wild.

Thank you so much for your continued support in helping Sudin on his journey to forest freedom.
