Rickina and her baby boy, Ricko are doing well at the YIARI rescue centre in West Kalimantan.

They have been temporarily moved back to an enclosure because the 1-hectare forest area where they were initially released is currently under repair. Cheeky Rickina repeatedly damaged the zinc-sheet walls here, meant for baby orangutans.
However, another large, forested enclosure is being prepared and reinforced for Rickina and Ricko. They will be able to move there soon. This space will give them more room and a safe place to continue their rehabilitation.
Little Ricko’s independence has grown. He now feeds himself and even defends his meals from Rickina, who respects his determination. Despite this newfound independence, their bond remains strong. They spend most of the day playing apart and exploring their environment. In the evenings, Ricko becomes very attached to Rickina. He seeks her comfort until they fall asleep together.
Rickina and Ricko both love their food and aren’t picky eaters. Both are actively engaged in enrichment activities, crucial to their development. Rickina, in particular, enjoys the hammock barrel, where she loves to play and rest. These activities help improve their mobility and skills, preparing them for their eventual return to the wild.
