Plans are in place to move Carlos to Kaja Island before the end of 2018. This is one of the forested pre-release islands. Now that the BOS Foundation has been able to release more orangutans into the forest, more room is becoming available on the pre-release training islands.
His keepers believe that Carlos is competent enough to live independently on the island. Carlos is always eager to practice his survival skills, even in confined spaces. The move to Kaja Island will allow Carlos to practice living as a wild orangutan and greatly increase his opportunity to travel, forage and build up strength and stamina.
In the meantime, Carlos remains in good health and is always very eager to receive enrichment and blankets from his keepers. He is very strong and can utilize all the various enrichment items to reach the desired food treats. He of course remains as handsome as ever!
