Roy is one of the most gentle and friendly orangutans at the Orangutan Care Center and Quarantine (OCCQ). With the help of his caregivers, Roy's forestry skills have been developing rapidly.
Like many adolescent humans, Roy takes his time in the morning and doesn't seem to be in any hurry to get out of his sleeping enclosure. Because of this, when he goes out to the forest each day he likes to be carried by one of his caregivers.
Once he has embraced the day, Roy will hop off his/her back and walk down the boardwalk to his favorite place in the forest. He will spend a few minutes playing with his friend Sydney, and then Roy will go off on his own. He is an expert climber and likes to make day nests when he has found a suitable tree. A curious soul, Roy likes to forage the forest for young leaves to eat. When he is on the ground, Roy loves to find puddles to play in.
The support from the staff at the OCCQ will continue to help Roy develop the skills needed for his return to the wild. For now he is doing well. His weight has gone up to 17 kg (37.4 pounds)
